I’m starting a blog. I know, it’s weird. But you should too.
Why?
Knowing that there are those among us who have been blogging since the late ’90’s, idea of starting a blog might seem like jumping into an already crowded pool of navel-gazing self-promoters. Not particularly appealing. Yet, could it be that blogging can be more beneficial than a simple platform for self-expression or affiliate marketing? For me, starting a blog in 2025 is about stewarding ideas, deepening my ministry, and embracing the principles of personal knowledge management. Let me explain.
Tiago Forte’s Building a Second Brain has deeply influenced my decision to blog.
Each week, I share messages about God through Scripture that I believe can change lives for eternity. My role as a pastor affords that I have access to a wealth of resources that cannot be understated. I consume way too much information from Scripture, books, mentors, and personal circumstances through my life at the church. I continuously encounter ideas worth remembering… the problem is I simply can’t. Like my fellow Sons of Adam, I have a terrible inefficiency in processing large chunks of information, much less applying it in any real sustainable way.
Forte’s concept of a “second brain” emphasizes capturing, organizing, and sharing knowledge in ways that outlast our memory, or even our lifetime. A blog is a perfect platform for this knowledge, as it ultimately becomes a digital repository—a place to document and preserve thoughts and reflections and allow others into my thinking. It’s where raw ideas can, theoretically, clarify my own thoughts while contributing to the spiritual growth of my readers.
Maybe this blog will become a place where I can organize my ideas to become more original in my work. Maybe it will become a place where my close friends/family can go to see what I am currently working on. It may even be something that my children will someday be able to read, creating a digital legacy of God’s work in my mind and heart.
Either way, it’s a discipline that is worth pursuing. And you should too.
So go read the book. I’m sure you’ll be able to find it without an affiliate-marketing link.
At its core, my decision to start a blog as a pastor is about faithfulness. It’s about fulfilling my calling to share God’s Word and to equip others for their spiritual journey. It’s about stewarding the insights and experiences God has given me, ensuring they don’t remain confined to the four walls of my office or the fleeting moment of a soon-to-be forgotten sermon.
As I enter this space for the first time, I do so with the hope that my blog will become a space where where timeless truths are explored through the lens of today’s challenges and where readers find encouragement to live out their God-given purpose.
Here’s to the start of something new.
